Mana Academy utilizes the learning management system, Canvas, to deliver curriculum to our scholars. Canvas is also used to monitor grades, assignment submissions, share course documents, class syllabus, facilitate message correspondence between scholars and instructors. Parents can also monitor the academic progress of their scholars by creating an observer account. We've put together this comprehensive guide for parents to create an observer account and navigate their way through Canvas.
STEP 1: Generate a Pairing Code
Please note, you will need to obtain a Pairing Code first. Ask your student to log into to Canvas and generate a pairing code. Here are the directions on how to do that. You can also ask your scholar's teacher for a pairing code.
STEP 2: Create a Canvas parent observer account
You will see a login display like the one in this picture below. Click on the link (circled in red in the photo below) that says Need a Canvas Account? Click here, it's free!
Click on Parents sign up here indicated in the photo below by the red circle and arrow.
Enter the following information:
Enter your name in the Your Name field.
Enter your email in the Your Email field.
Create your password in the Password field.
Re-enter your password in the Re-enter Password field.
Enter the paring code to link your account to your student in the Student Pairing Code field.
Agree to the terms of use by clicking the You agree to the terms of use checkbox.
Click the Start Participating button.
Congratulations! You can now begin observing in Canvas.
To add more students
If you have more than one scholar at Mana Academy, you can add now add them to your Canvas dashboard. Go to Account > Settings.
In User Navigation, click the Observing link.
Type the pairing code in the Student Pairing Code field and click the + Student button.
You will then be able to see the scholars you are observing.
